Holidaymakers using their credit cards to shop and take out money abroad face higher costs as banks raise their fees. Credit card companies including Aqua, Bank of Scotland, Fluid, Halifax, Lloyds, Marbles and Opus have increased the charge for withdrawing cash abroad from 3 per cent to 5 per cent on ten cards since the start of last year, according to the research company Fairer Finance. The increase means that someone withdrawing £ of foreign currency using one of these cards would be charged £10, up from £6 last year.
There are only four cards on the market that allow British people to take out money from overseas cash machines free of charge, Fairer Finance said.
